Temptations - Change Awareness
So far we have talked about 5 ways to overcome temptations to smoke, eat cookies, skip a study period or whatever our inner mind has come up with. Our inner mind sends messages, desires and cravings which are heard and felt in our minds and body. The overall goal is to remove the negatives so we will not get these temptations in the first place. Here is the 'change awareness' approach to overcome them when they happen.
Let's say we walk into our kitchen and see an open bag of cookies on the counter. Most of us live with others so they could belong to someone in our family. We get thoughts and desires in our mind to eat some. Its happening in our mind. So lets move our awareness someplace else.
PEACE SELF HYPNOSIS
My shoulders, arms and hands are at peace.
My chest and stomach are at peace.
My back is at peace.
Besides going into self hypnosis we are moving our awareness from our mind to our shoulders, arms, hands, chest, stomach and back. This will lessen any desires right away.
FEET
This is especially good when walking outside.
Bring your awareness to the soles of your feet.
Become aware of the earth beneath you.
Look around at the colors and shapes (sky, trees,...}.
Smell the air.
Walk around feeling the soles of your feet touching the earth.
Great when walking from car to home.
ACTIVITIES
Do something. Read a book. Squeeze a stress ball. Walk away. Do something. Find out what works for you.
