FIRST TIME READER - Click on aWELCOME to the right in Category for an introduction.

With the start
of a new endeavor we have high hopes. A big part is getting and staying motivated. The first step is setting your goal. Here are some general rules.

A. Make it personal: I, my chest muscles, my business.
No: You run a 6 minute mile.
    Yes: I run a 6 minute mile.
Yes: I make 8 sales calls today.
Yes: I bench press 185 pounds.

B. Use the present tense.
No: I will get an A on my English test.
Yes: I get an A on my English test.

C. Try to use positive terms.
No: I don't flunk my Math test.
Yes: I pass my Math exam or I get a B or better .

D. Make it clear and simple.

E. Test it. 1. Is it possible? 2. Is it good for me and others.

F. Make it measurable.
OK in beginning: I lose weight.
    Later: I weigh 135 pounds.

These are general rules and are not meant to exclude other possible wordings.

Take a few moments to formulate your goal. Some are simple, others complex.
Now we want a goal that inspire us. Let's look at weight loss.
I weigh 125 pounds is one wording. Let's try to find a more inspiring one for some people.
I fit into a size 6 dress. This is another wording.

So take a few moments to reflect on the wording of your goal.
Next write down your goal on paper 5 times.
Write down the steps needed to reach your goal. This may be brief or detailed.
